About Bunny Friend Neighborhood Association
The Bunny Friend Neighborhood Association was established in March 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in August 2008. Our organization was created to support the rebuilding and recovery needs of residents in the Upper 9th Ward—one of New Orleans’ hardest-hit and historically underserved communities.
Our neighborhood spans the area bounded by Franklin Avenue to Kentucky Street and from St. Claude Avenue to Florida Avenue. Following the storm, floodwaters devastated the community, leaving families to reconstruct their lives from the ground up. Since then, Bunny Friend has served as a vital source of hope, advocacy, and resources, helping residents navigate the long journey of recovery and restoration.
Today, Bunny Friend continues to foster resilience and strengthen community spirit while advancing the progress of rebuilding efforts. We are proud to collaborate with dedicated partners such as Jeffery Supack of Water Wise Gulf South, Cheryl Austin of Greater Treme Consortium Inc., Angela Chalk of Healthy Community Services, and Girl Scouts Troop #42614. Together, we work to create a stronger, healthier, and more connected neighborhood for all who call the Upper 9th Ward home.
